Temperature sensor relay - where is it located ?

  1. #1
Cooling issues on my facelift 1.1 Saxo. Temperature dash light on with fan after approx 15 seconds starting engine.

Have changed head gasket, radiator, water pump, thermostat, both temperature sensors, bled the system, but not checked the temperature relay yet.

Where is the relay located for the top temperature sensor in the thermostat housing ?.

There isn`t a relay just a sensor mate.

Have u checked all wiring is ok to the temp sensor which controls the fan? And were the sensors changed for known working ones?

i think u need to check u have blead the system properly because i had the same light because i never done mines correct and then done it correct and problem was solved theres a good guide on how to do it right on here just use the search buddy

Sounds like the ecu doesn't know the temp so is bringing the fan on. Sensors are on the stat housing

    Both temperature sensors are new.

The system has been bled several times with a header. It is not an airlock issue, the engine does not overheat, but the fan/warning light are on constantly 15 seconds after starting the engine.

Two mechanics have indicated checking the temperature relay.

Any ideas where the is located ?.

As stated their isn`t a relay.Don`t believe everything a mechanic tells you.

    Okay, so no relay.

Last week we tried yet another new temperature sensor (top thermostat housing) and traced the wiring from ECU to sensor, all okay, but still fan & warning light on ??.

Have you tried resetting the ecu by unplugging the battery for while?
  10. #10
Yes tried that, disconnected both terminals for 24 hours.

    what year is your 1.1.

    X plate.

have a look on the radiator for the thermostatic switch it will be a blue swwitch with a 3 plug connector. un plug it if the fan is still on its a relay.if the fan goes off then its the switch.

if you dont have one its a relay problem

The fan relay on my VTS is underneath the radiator behind a black plastic triangular cover. I removed the front bumper to get to my mine.
Presume it's the same on all models.

There is no thermostat switch on the radiator.

Which relay, and where is it located ?

Is it a front mount fan on a 1.1? the fan relay is on the fan housing itself. Probably behind a plastic door.

If it's a rear mount fan, then the relay will be kinging about in or around the fuse box, thinking about it logically

Yes, it's front mounted, checked that connection a while back, and reconnected the earth strap to the body. Will check out tomorrow.

    Thanks for the info

Problem still not solved. Apart from the actual ECU being faulty, any other suggestions ?.
