#2Could be any of the following:
Drive Shaft
Strut top bearing
Drop links
Ball joints
Track rod ends
You need to get under it and have a poke about. -
#4In all the ball joints (bottom ball joint, drop links and track rods) you want to look out for excess play, get the wheel off and poke about with a pry bar.
Go somewhere you can do a circle with full lock on each way and listen for the drive shafts.1 user thanked this post: -
#5Hey again thanks for the advice I have replaced drive shafts and the problem with the knockin when accelerating to the right, however im gettin a knocking or thudding noise most when im doing 50 sometimes it will make noise and sometimes it wont, its tempramental it coming from the same side the front n/s, I did have a blowout and had to drive home on the rim but that happened months ago then I put the car off the road could this be the reason for the one side being a pain? I have a lower arm with ball joint to go on tomoz will this sort my issue?

#6The whole driving on a blown tyre could explain why your getting the noise at 50. You might have slightly buckled the wheel which has knocked the balance out, but that's just a guess.
Replacing the arm will help if its the ball joint, more than likely it is. When you have the wheel off check the drop links as well. There worth replacing and pretty cheap.1 user thanked this post: -
#7Yeah thanks mate I'll let you know how I get on! Getting the lower arm replaced tomoz, fingers crossed it sorts my problem I'll see about getting the drop links changed aswell, how much do you think I'll expect to pay for the drop links? And thanks again.Quote:The whole driving on a blown tyre could explain why your getting the noise at 50. #8Do the drop links yourself, honestly it's two nuts holding them on. When you take the wheel off you'll see them. One nut on the Anti Roll Bar and one on the strut. If you getting them done in a garage it's a ten minute job if that. I had a dodgy one last month, it took longer to get the wheel off than replace it.
Hope you get sorted a s put a end to you problem.1 user thanked this post: -
#9Thanks mate I had the lower arm and balljoint, but when puttin the wheel on only one nut would tighten, threads inside the hub are knackered now trying to source a new hud and been offered a vtr hub with strut and spring for a good price but will it still be drivable for the mean time?
-
#10I'm not sure if the hubs are different because of the ABS on a VTS, someone will be able to tell you.
If it is fine to swap over its not to bad a job, just disconnecting everything. At least you can check the top bearing on the new one. Just turn the mound by hand when it's off the car and see if it feels rough and notchy.
Edit - you'll need to be careful about the new strut if it takes different drive shafts. Later models are tapered. You'll need the same style hub on the strut as you'll have dramas. I'm sure yours will use tapered shafts as its a MK2 but its around the cross over year I think so I'm not 100%
