Important! : No Power, Engine Stuttering

  1. #1
    Hi everyone,

My GTi has developed an annoying engine stutter. It is extremely down on power.

On idle it seems like a misfire although its very consistant and not irregular. with no load on the engine and any higher than 1800RPM it runs as smooth as the day it came out of the factory. as soon as any load is introduced ie pulling away/accelerating it judders and almost seems to misfire. 0-60=never and it wont climb a hill. also smells extremely rich from exhaust area but no smoke be it black or blue.

    Diagnostic test threw up:

    purge valve error code 6
    Injectors 2/3 Code 6
    Injectors 1/4 Code 6

However they were all flowing and opening correctly

    New parts as listed:
    Fuel filter
    Air filter
    oil
    oil filter
    cambelt and associated components
    Head gasket
    coil pack
    spark plugs
    New 3 pc clutch kit
    recon gearbox

cleaned ALL sensors (loom removed and assesed during cambelt change)
Removed all injectors, put 12v through them soaked in injector cleaner also used air pressure to blast cleaner through.
    fuel pressure reg also cleaned

top end rebuild done a few months back consisting of new stem seals, camshaft seals, reconditioning hydraulic tappetts, regrinding valves and a general decoke of ports and cylinder face.

sump also removed in this time to remove all traces of old oil.

Due to the amount of effort put into the mechanics of the engine, we do not believe it to be a mechanical issue.

any Help from an electrical guru will be much appreciated!

Lambda sensor gone faulty may account for a rich smelling exhaust.

found this wire on the loom from injector relay going to the main black plug into the car by the battery tray. could this be the wire causing a short out rubbing against something or having broken entirely? its a thicker wire and looks as if it is insulated by a strange green powder. if this type of wire is broken at all whether the copper inside is still connected or not could this cause issues? time for new loom??

Disconnect the battery cut out the damaged section, then splice the 2 ends together(if you have enough cable)Then a section of shrink wrap over the top.

Thanks for the quick reply, just tried connecting this wire and made no difference. I'm really tearing my hair out here, have no idea what is wrong.

Just out of interest does the engine wobble alot on tick over and if given a hard rev does it struggle to stay at idle when the revs have dropped?
