Not long swapped my car for another saxo 1.1i my previous 1.1s normally do the clock (with abit of wind and down hill lol) but yeah this one is shit off a shovel to 70 then crawls to 80 and just about gets to 82 down hill, iknow there not fast cars, but its just the wonder of why it tops out at 80, all ive done so fat is new coil pack and plugs, its not under weight its got barly anything in the car, so yeah all ideas worth it ? Thanks
Why does my car only do 80mph top end?

#2Might have had the gearbox changed and somthing like a VTR put on it, I had a westcoast last year that wouldnt go over 85... that had a vtr box on it lol yet all the other 1.4s iv had do like 110
-
#3I wouldnt say a long box like a vtr box would be good for acceleration on a 1.1
-
#4No 2 cars are the same, for example some of it boils down to servicing at the correct intervals etc.
-
#5I was thinking box at first, but the pull is too great for a vtr box, and it has full service history lol, surprising, and confusing at the same time! Maybe it has been restricted ? Or some kind
again i know there not fast any way but ive never known one to get to 80 really quick then bam thats all you get!
-
#6Get to 80 in 4th then changing up to 5th does nothing?
-
#7Acceleration will be quickish even with a VTR box, but at speed, the gears are too long for the engine to get the torque to the wheels.
Also, are your valve clearances correct? -
#9I see what your saying, and im not sure how do i check this? And is there a way to determin if its a vtr box, or a 1.1 box without stripping the box its self lol
-
#11Getting the code off the gearbox will take 5 minutes and will be very telling
-
#12Because of aero dynamics. Force required to punch dat saxo through the air is exponential. (I think it's a cube function actually).Quote:What makes you say that? Vtr/diesel has the longest ratios of all the boxes fitted to these cars
So, average acceleration will be similar - up to a certain speed. but because the gears are taller, the overall top speed will be less because the torque at the output of the gearbox is less at a given rpm.
You need torque to sustain a high speed, as a horsepower is 33,000 torques per minute
Aww I'm not good at explaining things.
I know what I mean though.
-
#13you shouldn't have to go above 70MPH anyway...?!

#14How much do you weigh?
-
#18Tell the hamsters to run faster
-
#20As I said earlier, you've a lot less air resistance at 30mph, so that makes sense to me.Quote:5th just seems dead lol, how can i put it :/ seems like its cruise control 5th does lol no power or pull after 80, but pulls okay at 30 in 5th
find the gearbox code!
I'm sure there's a guide on here abut the codes. it wouldn't be fair for me to link 106owners guide

#21ive got the opposite, a 1.0 106 xn and an alleged 93 mph, ive topped a tonne twice now, and 0-60 19.0 seconds, ive done 18 dead multiple tests with tonnes of junk weighing the back down and a passenger lol
-
#22race cars are limited tbh.
-
#23Saxo speedo`s are not accurate,so your 100mph was more like 90mph.Quote:ive got the opposite, a 1.0 106 xn and an alleged 93 mph, ive topped a tonne twice now, and 0-60 19.0 seconds, ive done 18 dead multiple tests with tonnes of junk weighing the back down and a passenger lol

#25Holy shit that's slower than my 1.5D!!!!!Quote:ive got the opposite, a 1.0 106 xn and an alleged 93 mph, ive topped a tonne twice now, and 0-60 19.0 seconds, ive done 18 dead multiple tests with tonnes of junk weighing the back down and a passenger lol

14 seconds to 60 and 97 real mph (speedo was reading 105-110)
a 1.0 will never reach 100mph. Not even in theory could it reach that, it's not got enough power
-
#26wrong lad. my old* 1.0 16v n/a boggo k11 touched 100mph.Quote:Holy shit that's slower than my 1.5D!!!!!

pic on my fb somewhere. -
#27Same as my k11 turbo it does 130 goes off clock,
-
#28well whatever it was it must have been pretty close as it was running with my mates corsa d and he said he was at 90 something when i passed him lol
-
#29On another note, why are you even attempting to be a bad bwoy in a 1.0?
-
#30Id just like to point out that all these test were carried out on private land officer.
-
#33I dont even see why they bothered to make a 1.0l
-
#34Because of the way cars are taxed in Europe.
Some are a price per 100cc (like in Germany)
France had a tax calculated based on horsepower.
1.0 was designed purely for driving in the city and at slow speeds.
Also, Brazil is a huge market for Peugeot, cars over 1.0 in Brazil pay a hefty tax.
Same goes for greece etc.
