newbie with a squeaky accelerator pedal problem

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2002 1.1 saxo... a few days ago my accelerator pedal started to squeak when I press it, but this only happens occasionally and only in low gears. When I press the pedal while the car is not running I never get the squeak, also when the squeaking begins it only lasts until I accelerate a bit.

When it happens, it sounds almost like an old squeaky door opening, every time I tap the pedal.

What could be the issue here? I think something needs spraying or greasing up, but I'm not sure what... Should I grease the pedal, if yes where exactly? (sorry, as I said I'm a newbie )

Don't spray it, WD will stop a squeak for a bit but that's it, you'll need to use grease. Grease the pedal pivot and follow the cable through the bulkhead and grease every place it meets something.

Alright, thanks!! I'll do it today, hope it'll help.

If it doesn't help at least you've eliminated one posibility. Might need a new throttle cable.

Tonight I greased up the pedal pivot and the cable under the bonnet, didn't have time to grease the whole thing. This didn't help... but I noticed the squeaking only happens when I tap the pedal while the revs are low, this shows it's the cable even more, right?

I'll try follow the whole cable tomorrow and grease it everywhere it needs, hope it'll help...

I had the same problem with my 1.1, as mentioned WD40 is not a good long term fix, I found copper grease to be quite good ( had some laying around ).
