Last issue, need advice...

Hi people, in short i had major problems with my VTS and ended up replacing pretty much whole engine which then turned out just to be dodgy cap (not holding pressure) LOL . Iv now got it all back together and the only problem i am having now is the rad fan.

Basically once the car has got up to temp drives ok (new lambda not in yet) and sits dead on halfway when driving at decent speed but when going slow or idle fan will come on and wont cool car down. Changed rad from scrappy few weeks ago from old 106 (quite oily inside but flushed through).

Can anyone shed any light on this and could the rad be the problem thanks

Just wondering but would a old 106 1.1/1.2 radiator be ok in vts, same size but do they flow at different rates??

Like i said it had quit a bit of oil inside when i got it from scrappy (headgasket gone) flushed it out before installing tho, maybe still blocke

I've had quick flick through some old threads and a few people have said they don't have the same cooling capacity.

What would you advise, VTS rad? Iv got a VTR rad lying around but it doesnt have the hole for the fan sender switch. Dont wanna spend 150 on original vts rad if it makes no difference

People seem to rate the Nissens rads, I know there not that expensive but I know what you mean about not wanting to spend the money if its not the issue. I would say try scrap yards but seeing as you got the 1.1 from a yard they must have been out of VTS and GTI's.

There's one for sale in the sale section for a tenner, but you need 100 posts on the forum to access the section or you could buy a £10 membership and get instant access.

The 1.1 rad isnt really up to cooling the VTS engine imo, otherwise why would they have fitted it to the S and late VTRs? Espescially if its an old oil contaminated one.
I have a spare old but good VTS rad you can have for cheap if you want it, but they arent expensive new.
Also how are you bleeding the cooling system?
