   I decided to get a new bumper for my car because I think the fog lights look cute.
   
   anyway, the plastic plug things which click together for them to work, the one on my car has broken. I'm just wondering if there's a proper name for them so I can buy a new one?

   You mean the electrical connectors?
   
   Is it broken on the loom side? or the foglight bulb holder itself?

   yeah
   
   the fogs work when I wire them directly to the battery, it's just when I connect them they don't. there's electricity going to them so the fault is in the connector.
   
   or can I just cut the connectors off and join the wires?

   Sure you can cut and SOLDER the wires do not twist and leave it, they'll corrode.
   
   I think your connectors are just dirty. on my GTI the front left spot only works if the plug is wiggled.

   I've checked the connectors and one of the prong things have snapped off

    how are you turning the spotlights on if you car didnt come equipped with the correct stalk?

    you need a stalk which has front foglight switch. it's 2 stage instead of single stage. (single stage being rear fogs only and an orange light on the dash)
