Important! : Rev problems

    The car when it idles is all over the place high then low then starts to go all the way up to about 4000 rpm and climbing and then if I put the clutch down to select gear it still keeps revving any ideas on what this could be really starting to anoy me

    Icv needs cleaning if that doesn`t work then the icv needs renewing.

    fitted a new ICV and still reving its tits off

    check the throttle cable isnt caught or anything simple. Air leaks on the inlet will also cause high revving - so spray carb cleaner round it anywhere suspect on it and listen for a change in revs
    Also has the ICV has reset and returned to the normal position.

    did over night ecu reset problem still there

    You've got a vacuum leak. 100%.

    First place to check is the plastic bit which tees off for your brake servo. do the brakes feel heavy?

    Do a smoke test on it, basically you blow cigar smoke down the inlet and see where it comes out. engine off of course

    it was the throttle position sensor now replaced from scrappy for £5 and runs fine again

    Any ideas why that would be?

    I didn't realise a fully open ICV would let the car rev so hard.
