Important! : Back wheels lock up :S

  1. #1
    Hi,
Ive finally got my Saxo taxxed, insured and on the road (at a high cost!) but anyway the other day I was approaching a roundabout at about 30mph and decided to see how good the brakes were seen as though I had tried them out properly before! I slammed on, and when I did the back wheels locked up immediately and it slid out sideways. I managed to hold it etc and stopped facing the right way and everything ok but I have been told the brake compensator is seized up that is causing this?
Any ideas where this is and how its unseized etc?
    Cheers!

Has the car been lowered? You are right about the brake compensator, it may not be seized though.. May just need adjusting

its mounted on the near side rear, near the rear beam so you have to fetch the wheel off to get to it. It can be adjusted via a spring and screw arrangement but with living in dirt and salt its whole life they do seize rather easily but there is a guide on here which shows you how.
I'd just replace it if its duff

My vts was doing this so went to adjust it on the bolt and it snapped off :/ so it just has been disconnected now no need for great brake pressure on the rear anyways

Sort the ride height, handling and braking safety will be restored.

I raised mine from 60mm to 40mm yesterday and it made massive difference!

40mm is the mm to be!

Looks great, handles great and gives you zero problems.

As Prickle said, 40mm is about right. My two were 40/50 and 50/40 both caused neither problems.

Both locked their arse ends up though. Its the compensator, they are a crap design.
Plenty of guides how to sort it.

If you pull the fuse on your ABS prickle and try an emergency stop does your not lock its back end up first?

Back end on mine has never ever locked up matt.

I've not tried it without the ABS... no need lol

You havent tried it without ABS, so no surprise it hasnt locked up.

You must have the only lowered saxo that doesnt though.

I wasn't the one that lowered it that much! I think it looks cool but for practicality, comfort, safety and everything else its not great I have tried to raise it up but the torsion bars and seized and as I'm selling it in a month or so as off to Uni, I'm not fussed

I couldnt tell you when it was last seen. I know some lad bought it for an extortionate amount and then I saw it on ebay being broken for spares a few weeks later.
