bonnet flipped up, need roof repair

  1. #1
So I was heading up the dual carriage way and this happened:

Gutted as ive only had the thing a few weeks, towing will be 50 quid, windscreen cover kicks in so thats only 75 BUT...

Do you think the roof is repairable? Just enough to get a screen in place or is it just a write off?
  2. #2
some people on here have repaired theres on the cheap

have a look around. Someone might be able to beat it back into shape and use a skim of filler or something

New roof skin- about 120 then fitting = about 200 that's what I would do. May be better off just filling it and painting matte black.

damn that maccies bag did a lot of damage
  5. #5
just push it out, get a screen fitted, then learn to check the bonnet is latched properly!

    and don't go to maccies.

no need for a new roof skin, as its the front crossmember that's been bent.

    I think it's ****ed.

Lost count of how many times I've seen people driving with the bonnet half open. Basic check really, and no it's not effed. Either beat back in shape or fit new roof + paint.

The days of £120 roof skins seems to have ended.
Last time we went to Citroen/Peugeot it was £250 + vat for a non sunroof roofskin

I wouldnt even waste my money on a 1.1. Try and tidy it up and chuck a new winscreen on.

Tbh saxo`s in that colour are more sought after,so i`d break the car for parts mate.Shame as it may seem.

Got a few quotes, getting a new windscreen in tomorrow *hopefully* going to try my best to get the dint out and get a scrappy bonnet and paint it black unless I find one in the same colour going cheap haha

That will kick out and it will just have a wobbly roof and i would imagine a smear of silicon sealant across the top.

Car will never be mint unless it has a new roof skin though i would imagine.

you'll never get a windscreen to fit on that properly.

I flipped the bonnet on my boss's 172 track toy a few years back, roof wasn't as dented as that but the screen wouldn't sit correctly.

    (totally wasn't my fault. lol)

Never ever use silicone around the windscreen. It rots the bond and makes everything worse.

I once bought a westcoast for £250 from an auction. The rear window was held in with black bathroom silicoln sealant and it held without leaking for the 13months i owned it without any issue. Looked shit but for the sake of having the car on the road for as little as possible i cant see any issue.

Long term perhapts not so good, but long term you wouldnt want to have a roof thats been kicked into shape.

Also the wings and doors will differ to VTR/S spec so not much good.

Doubt many can be arsed with swapping window winders for motors and drilling holes.

but his aunties dog sealed a milk bottle into his arse hole using silicone and 4 years later its still fine.

Tell ya what seal a wind screen in using silicone then roll it and see if you live after the roof caves your head in because its no longer a structural windscreen.

It's a art fitting a windscreen, Yeah a boot glass or any other windows then yeah but a windscreen never.

cost me £350 to get mine done that included getting the ariel hole smoothed over. You will need:

    Bonnet
    Bonnet hinges
    Windscreen
    Roof pushed out
    A bit of panel beating
    Some filler
    Then painting

Non sunroof roofskin costs £200 inc vat, that even comes with the cross member in place of the old sunroof
