clutch fitting?

right let me start, went to change the clutch on my 02 plate vtr today, everything went fine untill i got the gear box off and then went to remove the old clutch, friction plate came off and clutch came off fine, went to put the new clutch on aligned it and then the new fiction plate wouldn't line up, so im guessing that there is two style friction plates, i got the clutch from euro car parts, selected the clutch by using my reg. just a piss take really now im car less till monday

    maybe i have a friction plate for a mk1?

any help would be great thanks

What do you mean it doesn't line up?

You put in an aligning tool, then tighten the bolts up?

Clutches are the same between mk1 and 2 iirc, only the flywheels are different bolt pattern.

yeah i used an aligning tool, but the friction plate wouldn't line up with the nipples on the flywheel to allow it the sit flush on the clutch.

By friction plate I think you mean the pressure plate.
The mk1 pressure plates have 6 bolts evenly spaced out, and the mk2 pressure plates have 6 bolts but in 3 groups of 2 bolts closer together.
Could be the other way round though I can't remember.

If it doesn't line up you definitely have the wrong one I'm afraid.

It's just wouldn't line up on the nipples on the fly wheel to get it flush so that I could bolt the clutch up

Other way round but your right - early is 3/2 and late is equal spacing.

Does sound like you have the pressure plate from the wrong type.
