Saxo 1.4 VTS Engine Swap

    Hey there

    I'm thinking of doing an Engine Swap on my 1.4 Saxo VTS 2000...

    I've had the car more than a year now and i'm pretty happy about the car no faults and nothing but after one year, I just need a little bit more power.
    There is for sure the alternative of buying a Saxo 16V, but as I'm a student its a bit of a problem concerning money, and my parents who are paying tax and insurance wont allow me to own a faster car, but i am allowed to modify my car

    I'm looking for a straight swap, just dumb in the enginen maybe fit it with another gearbox and cams, and for sure put in a new head gasket? and a new belt? thats it...
    And change the ECU, I dont want to change the whole loom? inside the car.

    So which engine woult you recommend for this sort of swap?
    the one i'm thinking of is the TU5JP NFT with 1.6liters and 98hp...

    Your car is not a VTS its ether a furio or westcoast

    It's a VTS over there lol.

    He will be wanting a 16v to go in.

    Here in Austria it is a VTS
    and if i'am ordering parts there is allways the way to choose the "Saxo 1.4 VTS 2000-2003"

    Maybe in England its differently labeld???

    if ordering parts of ebay it seems to show 1.4 saxos as VTS

    cant believe people still dont know furios are called vts's abroad, its used as a trim level where here its an engine type

    if you are fitting another engine jsut got for the 1.6 16v tu5j4 much more power car will feel completely different

    all you need is the engine with unlocked ecu and engine loom that matches your original one and the top rad hose

    if you want you can fit the 16v gearbox to aid acceleration and the matching drivesahfts

    you can also use the bigger 1.6 rad and fan but you can also use your old one no problem, if you do fit the bigger rad then you can use your old bottom rad hose just cut it down

    i would only do the head gasket if it needs doing but it is a good time to fit new belts/water pump and give it a service plugs/fluids/filters

    simple covnersion can be done in a day, things get messy when peole dont buy the right loom and dont clean all the earths and wonder why it doesnt run

    I'm only planing to do this swap, gonna take some time till i'll start this...

    Tu5J4 is a bit heavy, even a blind one will see the difference between the 8V TU's and the 16V...
    I'm aware that the 16V is the best choice to gain power, but its also very easy to see for the police
    Gearbox for sure a shorter one than original, maybe go for the 1.1 gearbox

    Aren't the driveshafts allways the same on Saxo's with 4 bolt hubs?

    I've got the the twin fan and an Aftermarket Nissens Alu Radiator

    The right engine loom for my car would probably be one out of an Saxo 16V after 2000 with aircon, am I right?

    Thing is you're going from 1.4 75bhp? to 1.6 8v 90/8bhp...

    Suppose it makes no odds you wont be legit anyway lol, may aswell go for the 120 16v

    sure it wont be legit, but if i have to open the bonit, every one who knows a bit about engines will spot the difference between a sohc and a dohc engine

    And then there are the prices...

    1.4 and 1.6xsi start from around 200 euros
    anyway would be very hard to fit, because they were only fitted in die 106 mk1, euro1 and so on

    1.6 NFZ with 88hp, is about 300 euros, also very hard to fit because its euro2, and then there is the analog dash

    1.6 NFT with 98hp, isnt really there because the vtr or what ever its called over there wasnt sold anyway in Austria...

    And the 16V is realy hard to find and then you'll pay around 800+

    So best choice for me would be to go for a whole car, like an accident car?, or something like that...
    Just get the car take out everything I need and sell the rest as spares?
    Would cost me round about a thousand bugs to get a car like that...

    What about an tu5j2 from a 106 rallye? May be easier to find in your country and its the highest spec 8v as standard. That said you could just use the head from an xsi or rallye on yours to get some more power, that coupled with a good gearbox should give you a nice fun car to drive

    With 1.6 xsi i meant the Tu5j2, but i can only find this particular engine out of an Pug 106 S1 which means Euro1, different ECU whole different loom and so on...
