Sound of Fluid rushing? Help!

  1. #1
Before I detail the problem, a little background that may help. I have a Saxo Mk2 VTR that last week had a full service and cam belt/water pump change.... So here's the issue:

Ever since the above was done when I start the car from cold I hear a rushing of fluid (sounds like behind the dash). This sound is not heard on idle but the minute I pull away I hear it. This normally lasts until engine is warm.

I've checked for leaks, can't find any. The garage have a crap attitude and tell me if no leaks then don't worry about it but its irritating me. Can anyone help or give me any ideas?

I'm thinking air in coolant? Or could it be they didn't connect something back right? Cheers in advance.

    it is air in coolant.

Needs bled in a specific order with the engine OFF.

There was a thread covering this recently (again). I'll get a link.

Can't find the link I'll describe for you.

Get a coke bottle, cut the arse off it and remove the lid.

wrap some electrical tape around the threads. stick it in the hole in your radiator where you top up.

There is a tyre valve style nipple, towards the rear of the engine bay on the heater hose. open it. fill the plastic bottle with water until coolant flows smoothly from the nipple, then replace the cap.

There is an allen key bolt on the thermostat housing (size 5mm) same procedure, undo it a little bit, and close when there's no bubbles.

Then, lastly, there's the plug on the radiator itself on the passenger side at the top. Do the same again. it's a 1/4 turn and pull slightly.

The whole time, make sure the bottle is kept filled with water and the engine off.

p.s I'm still going to look for this thread! it's got pictures

    I got the order wrong.

Of course it makes sense to do the lower ones first d'oh.

    Here is linky http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98877

I'd recommend doing it with the engine off though.

The proper procedure says to run the engine until the stat opens and the fan cuts in and out a couple of times. You'll see the coolant mix in the header tank bottle. Then turn the car off and let it all cool naturally, the level in the bottle will drop then and you can add/remove coolant as necessary in the radiator before putting the cap back on to complete the job

Correct just making sure you don't let others put water straight into their car, then wonder why they get air pockets when it starts boiling
