307 16v Manifold

  1. #1
This is just for my knowledge but I have seen that a few people have mentioned you can use a 307 16v cast manifold for a turbo conversion.

Now I always thought you couldn't weld to cast? or am I mistaken? or is it a case of creating a flange to bolt onto the 307 manifold and then onto your turbo of choice?

    thanks

I used the same manifold for my turbo conversion on my old vts, any cast iron manifold off a jp4 engine will do the job. I didn't do the welding on mine but the lad who did it for me didn't have any problems welding it, and yeah it's basically a case of choosing your turbo, and finding the suitable flange for it and welding it to the manifold, and of course finding the right gasket to fit between the flange and turbo too

Also bear in mind that any half decent size turbo will require the rad being moved forward as the jp4 mani doesn't give you much space

just for future Searches.. Here is a reply from Bim from this website who managed to weld his.

    Quote:
Well you're not meant to.. Cause, cast iron is so 'dirty' so much coal in it..

I heated it, and then mig welded little by little, then hammered on it to release tension in the manifold, and heated and mig welded.. and dit it over and over..

It can crack when it heats up, when i got it running etc..

But for now its good .

Seroius welders, can weld with special weld thread, or mma welding pins for it..

ad it can be done that guy with the rwd volvo thing had a new flange put on cast manifold quite nicely do it can be done in a neat way if the welder is good
