power steering/battery problem after being stood 2 years!!!

  1. #1
right so I have a 2002 vts which has been stood for 2 years!!! bad I know!!

fired it up last week and its still sweet as a nut (after charging the battery of course).

but noticed the power steering is running when the ignition is on (engine not running) and the battery, handbrake and oil light are constantly on!

after searching through threads I checked the following:

tested battery and alternator ( 11.8v battery alone, 13.7 when running) so alternator is good?

checked fuses and relays all ok

    all fluid levels ok

what else could it be any suggestions??????

change all fluids. Your brakes are probably rusty, check your tyres for cracks or signs of premature ageing.

you clearly haven't understood what ive wrote lol, anyone else?

It wouldn`t hurt to drain then refill the pas fluid, then bleed it.

    change the fluids

You clearly don't seem to understand my answer. If the car's been sitting there for two years, change all fluids. That includes PAS fluid, duh.

I understand what you are saying and whilst changing fuids etc after standing is not a bad idea ,they will have no bearing on your problem
you have a wiring problem somewhere ,as the p/s should only run once the engine is fired up .
check all earthing points --actually undo them and clean = grease and refit
don,t forget the ones inside the car at lower edges of the dash board at both sides and multiple ones on the gearbox .
check multiplug connector/connectors at nearside front under bonnet for corrosion - and if still no joy check relay unit under ecu plate.
its def inately a power suply /earth problem
