Help! Car won't start

Okay lads! Need you guys to give a gal a hand.

Was supposed to take the car for MOT this morning. So, naturally, yesterday i went out to make sure the car was starting etc (hadn't been driven in a week). And, much to my disgust, the damn thing wouldn't start. Battery was dead as a dodo bird, so fitted another fully charged battery and she wouldn't start. Car turns over but just wont start. Tried bumping her and she was really trying to start but then kept cutting out. So, following Cam's careful instruction I disconnected the immobiliser as i thought this could have been a likely problem. To no avail. Car still tries to turn over but refuses to start. Couple of friends tried bumping and jumping her with both batteries and no luck.

Which led me to think that it could have been a fuel problem? However, petrol could be smelt in the engine bay so didn't think it was that.

Mechanic has tried plugging the car into the computer and it won't connect? Could it be ecu failure?

any ideas what the issue could be?

fuel is coming up okay. no spark at the spark plugs ano computer can't connect to the ecu (could that be from taking out the immobiliser?)

take the plugs out, are they wet with fuel after cranking?
if it were me i'd be removing the coil pack and the plugs, earthing them on the rocker cover and seeing if you get a spark. Being careful not to ignite fuel vapours here mind!

plugs are wet but no spark, that's how we tested for the spark.

dead coil pack or totally duff crank sensor could be the issue then here, beg/borrow each to test it with if you can

mechanic cousin keeps telling me i need to get my ecu working before i can do that? he says it isnt working cause it isnt connecting to his software which means it is failing?
