That doesn`t rule out it being faulty, you`ll only know by swapping for a known working 1.

    Could it be anything else

mine does the same thing when I'm cruising! come off the revs slightly and it tries to slow right down then goes back to normal.

My EML is also on, but I believe it's due to my coilpack. Its a brand new one, but my eml keeps throwing up that P0300 code, works fine and doesnt seem to effect the car so I just ignore it.
the other half says his VTS does the same bogging down thing and he has no EML on, it's probably just a touchy 3 plug vts thing!

Did you connect the capacitor on the coil pack to a metal grounding point?

I had a P0300 in my 106 GTi once, never found the cause. It's never been back though lol

Capacitor is only there to stop radio interference mate.

Pretty sure you can get misfire with it disconnected though.

I haven't seen a schematic for one, so was having a stab.

    May help may not.

The mrs 03 vts has an aftermarket alarm. Cobra if it matters.

If you unlock the car via fob and try starting it after 30 seconds of doing so (whilst immob is on) the car will turn, fuel but not fire. This brings management up with the same code you have. It is a ign missfire cods as said.

It clears itself after a few ign cycles.
