Idle control valve

  1. #1
Cars been revving the t*ts off itself for the last few months when idling. Usually starts up when the cars warmed up.

The car also doesn't start properly when cold, splutters a bit and sometimes cuts out unless I rev it.

Seems to misfire a lot when I'm driving too and now that I'm using the car a bit more it's doing my head in.

Question is, having searched, there is a few mentions of a stepper motor, am I right in thinking this is the same as the ICV?

Also I cleaned the ICV a while back and it's still not working properly so I'll need to buy a new one. Does any ICV fit or are they specific to the model? I have a 52 plate VTR.

All saxo icv`s across the range will fit & work,& yes a stepper motor is the same thing.

Icv's are different on different engine sizes, vtr ones are too big for 1.1's for example.

    cheers guys.

so a vts one would fit a vtr?

No, probably not, i think they would be different sizes. I have a vtr one you could have for £5 if you want? Not sure on how well it works but was ok when i had it on my vtr

ICV doesn't do anything when you're driving.

    IDLE control valve.

You might have a faulty TPS (this can cause the ICV to open and close when driving), MAP or lambda sensors causing your fuelling to be incorrect.

Since it's heat related, it could be the coil pack. they break down in high temps and at higher revs.

I'll be in touch about that, getting a diagnosis done on the car next week now so if its the ICV I'll have this off you.

Yeah I did mention that the car is revving when Idling, the misfire occurs when driving.

Now that you mention that it's heat related, I have noticed the fan kicking in a bit more often than normal...?

Is it a 3 plug ECU? Could be air lock or a faulty coolant sensor.

If it's single plug, then the coolant sensor and fan switch are separate so it's not that

Triple I think? 52 plate VTR...? Too many possible causes, my heads gonna blow up

Just a typical French car showing it's age, that's all

Start by changing the ICV, and removing, cleaning the throttle body and all the wee holes. Check for vacuum leaks too.
