Lets talk tyres

Im needing 2 tyres for the VTS before I head up to Silverstone end of the month to watch the BTCC (yes I had to say it )
So im needing recomendations from you guys. Ive got about £100 set aside and whilst I can go down the budget route for about £70, I like to be able to drive my car in the wet and not just hang the fuck on whilst it pisses off wherever it wants. So what would you guys recomend? Currently I have shity Admirals on the front, and im guessing 'Admiral' means 'Only in a strait line in the wet' as any wet corner is just an understeering nitemare and Toyo T1-R's on the back which seem fine. Im only replacing the fronts as the backs are fine so what would you guys recomend?

I have T1-R's on mine and they do the job.

Most people recommend rainsports instead think they are the better option for not much more in price.

I've got T1r and they seem ok. However I wish I'd paid the extra for rain sport.

Put your Toyos onto the front and then get budgets on the back?

Goodyear f1s arent bad, really quiet and quite grippy. Not much dearer than T1Rs and definitely better.

I bought uniroyals recently and can't sing their praises enough. The amount of lateral grip they produce even on really wet stuff is unreal. Great rubber.

Seems the Uniroyals are getting the vote so far.

The budgets are pretty much outa tread anyway so thats why they're going.

Yeah I mean put your toyota on the front then buy some budgets for the back? save bit of money

What about Hankook V12 Evo ...alot of Scooby owners use them or Toyo TR1s
  10. #10
Hankooks are good, but i've got Rainsport 2's on and my god. Grippppp.
Pushing corners way faster then I did with Mitchelins on.

Went to my local Kwik0fit thisafternoon and got 2 Toyo Proxes 4 fitted for the nifty price of £85. Not bad at all. Couldnt get the Uniroyals so managed to haggle the price of the Toyo's down because they couldnt get what I wanted. Also get my tracking checked and when the dude came into the reception to show me the printout I was amazed to find it all in the green. (They have some big fancy do-da that checks everything on all 4 wheels) I dont know what it all meant only that green is obviously good. Ha. I was expecting the rear to be a bit bent, you know how rear beams are but aparently its all spot on. Chuffed. All's left now is to test the grip of the Toyo's.

It's just a standard laser alignment. Hang four cradles off all the wheels, make sure you're steering wheel is straight.
My saxo atm is 19* out.
Green is good. Mine is deffo in the red.
Alignment on saxos is just a bugger cos of where the adjuster is. It's not a straight forward twist and tweak you need bendy limbs, and a shit load of wd40.

    Not from me

great wet grip, but noisy in all conditions. Toyo proxes are too soft and don't last.

These are great allrounders, excellent on road noise, fuel consumption and surprising wet grip:

not bad at all indeed, is that all in I mean balanced and new valve?

I did look at Kumho's, never had them on any of my cars before so didn't know what to think of them.
Yh that's all in, fitting balancing, new valve and nitro fill (as opposed to air but I doubt it makes a difference)
Never be affraid to haggle my friends, especially if the centre you go to is having a slow day and needs the sale. The threat of taking your business elsewhere is a powerfull tool.

I can second that on the kumho's. I have ecstas fitted on my VTR wheels and they're also really good tyres.

Had rain sports 2s for 6 months and they are brilliant in the wet and in corners, not bad in the day either. 195 50 15s two for 70 quid delivered

I ran 6 sets of T1Rs.. They did the job fine.

Now on the rainsport hype.. They was amazing when new. really surprised me in the wet..

However a few 1000s miles later and they're shite. Understeers alot now.

T1r's are as grippy from new to worn. ( i have old t1rs on the back and the back has more grip that the front atm)

    Rainsports on mine as well.

Had yokohama s drives. These are way better.

I've just ordered 4 yokohama s drives for my. 16s and they are allways my first choice of brand
    Second is the hankook ventus
