Rubbing / Vibrating Noise from VTR

  1. #1
    Hi Guys

I had my VTR for about 8 weeks now and noticed a rubbing / vibrating noise at 30mph plus and gets slightly louder at 60pmh or more. I assumed it was the noise of the engine but when dipping the clutch the sound remains and goes quieter as the car slows down or when turning right.

I thought this may have been the CV joint as the following advisory on the MOT was N/S CV gator but checked this and there is a little grease around the gator (wheel side) but no splits or cracks so this could have been replaced. There is also no play in the CV or the wheel so this kind of rules out the wheel bearing.

It was told it could be the CV Joint but in early stages (as the guy next door has had it in the air) and hes pretty handy with motors and says its ok to keep driving as no play in the joint.

To give you a better idea the noise sounds as if a wheel is rubbing slightly on the arch of the car (but its not)

Any thoughts on if this is correct and what else to look at?

    Many Thanks in advance

    Tony

To be honest it could be driveshafts but sounds very much like wheel bearings to me! If it goes when you turn right, I'd say its the bearings on the drivers side

Thanks for the advice.. Turns out to be the bearing on the N/S is on its way.. No play but making a hell of a noise.. Booked in for Tuesday and £100 all in (inc re-tracking of wheels)
