Important! : MOT fail and advisories

  1. #1
Had the car in the garage today for my mechanic to check it over before its MOT in 2 weeks time. And was greeted with a nice long list of stuff that needs doing :

Excessive play in the offside trailing arm
    Front nearside driveshaft needs replacing
    Front anti-role bar needs replacing
Offside rear tyre wall is worn and needs replacing
Rear brake pads and discs need replacing
    Exhaust gasket needs replacing
    New clutch cable is needed

Had the car a month This is why buying a car that was owned by at 62year old woman for its life isn't always as good as deal as you think it is! Bought the car for £1400!

Looks like on here everyone recommends just replacing the whole axle for a refurberbished one for the trailing arm?

The car did come with 3 months warranty from Autoguard warranties, but like all companies, of course nothing on the list is covered because it is all parts that have broken due to 'wear and tear'

most of those are cheap and easy fixes though.
Front arb is a bush or drop link I bet
How has it failed on the clutch cable too? it either works or it doesnt

I'd say that's not bad really, if it wasn't for the axle you'd have got away quite lightly. I'm thinking the same on the clutch cable, it doesn't get checked in a mot as it's not a safety issue. As Gandi says it either works or doesn't.

Ye if there putting stuff like clutch cable I would pit it into another garage see what they say do you use these much?

Why would you pay £1400 for a saxo that has a months mot..

It has 50k on the clock and it outstanding clean bodywork wise. Serviced every year with full service history. However it has been stood in a garage for a year so I feel me using it daily probably has created a few of the problems.

The clutch cable and exhaust gasket are things I have asked to be done as the clutch sometimes gets stuck. And there is a very small air leak in one of the gaskets. The rest of the things mentioned are things that would be picked up on the MOT.

The garage is a close family friend who reguerly services and MOT's my fathers fleet of vans so he is well trusted. And doesn't charge us full labour rates etc.. I know that doesn't always mean something, but i'd be very surprised if he was to muck as around at all.

He seems to recon the axle trailing arm will just need replacing, however other on here say it is better to refurb/replace whole axle? Opinions?

"low" miles means fuck all as you have found out, after 50k and 14 years all the big things are ready to be replaced, i guess it will need its belts doing shortly too.

    money pit

Go to Im axles for a refurbed one mate cheaper in the long run I had my trailing arms done and they failed again the year after as it's the pin that wears what the trailing arm goes onto, that's why I got a refurbed axle instead no probs now for last 4 years.
