cant solve airbag fault

  1. #1
Hi had a post ablout this a month or so back, but this problem has been here since my crash a year and a half ago. I replaced the full system including including the wiring from a donor saxo and by doing this i have eliminated 18 airbag faults down to 1! After erasing the fault and reading faults using the Lexia 3 i keep getting this error:

Intermittent fault: airbag warning lamp short circuit to -ve or open circuit

The airbag light flashes for 3 mins then stays still the rest of the time. I have today done the following:

Cut off plugs under each seat and crimped both sets of wires back, as this has been known to fix most airbag faults.

Cut off plugs under the dash and steering squibble for airbag and re crimped them.

Re soldered two earth wires from the harness loom connected to the dials.

But problem is still there. The fault doesnt make sence if their is no - signal or open circuit to the warning lamp then it wouldnt flash as no power is going to it.

    Any ideas guys?

Have you measured the resistance of squib/cables etc?

Same here mate no i have not worth a try though what should they be? I think it more related to the dials itself if you read back the error message. The lexia 3 told me this but annoyingly no error code is displayed just the message.

4ohms I believe i`ve got a similar problem where the airbag light comes on,& the eml light comes on going downhill. The scanner shows no faults recorded.

on the off chance would there be any airbag sensors or cables in the engine bay like if you had a collision it would go off?

ok reading the message again i came to a decision to replace the dials themselves as being a short circuit to warning lamp could only locate to instrument cluster themselves. erased the error code. Installed the replacement dials turned car on and airbag light still on

So all i can do now is locate this wire/s with a proper wiring schematics. I have the Haynes manual but its not detailed enough is their a digital copy of a detailed wiring schematics for a saxo? as it may illustrate were the -ve wire is for the airbag system.

    Thanks

Could be the airbag ECU itself is faulty. They can get water damaged, usually through leaking aerial in the roof, or windscreen seals etc.

The -ve is probably through the casing of the airbag ECU itself. could be corroded?

See what you mean, but i replaced my entire airbag system from the srs bog itself, all wiring, pretensions and steering wheel itself. Still have my old box so will try that back in and erase codes again. How did you know the -ve in inside the box itself?

    Thanks

    Just a stab.

If it earths through the loom, you'd have issues with other items on the dash.

My air bag light occasionally stays on and I find that if I mess with the connections under front seat it normally fixes problem. Must be a connection problem as a few friends solved the same problem this way.

Being w reg I presume the car doesn't have the side impact sensors?

Like I do with the eml coming on sometimes same time as the airbag light.Although no fault codes found.
