Important! : more horrible noises

    Right guys been trying to sus this one out but no luck basically theres a horrible clunk when turning the wheel but offside this time its not driveshaft at all when I jack the car up and turn its not there as soon as I drop it and do the same its back when it cluncks you can feel it thru the coil but cant see any thing wrong with it top mount maybe??

    Bottom arm, link rod or track rod end maybe?

    So had a closer examination today and have found a little split in the cv boot would this cause a knock when on the floor but not when in the air?

    If all the grease has leaked out, it could be. because when the car is on the ground the CV joint is at a different angle. So that's possible

    You think its worth just replacing the whole driveshaft seen them new for 51 squid

    Yes it is mate,people on here use a company called J+R driveshafts,can find them on ebay & they`re reliable as well.

    I got a new shaft from ebay for £30, and it's done me three years and 37,000 miles so far. boot only just starting to split. there's a pin hole in it.

    Just ordered driveshafts will just replace both while im at it next querie I jacked the car up again today and noticed that I can physically move my coil springs round by hand is this just because theres no tension in the springs it just doesnt seem right that I should be able to spin them!!!???

    Ye I didnt think it was it has been lowered by matey that had it before so not sure by how much?

    When I move the spring at the top the piece it sits in moves to should this be fixed to top mount or are they free standing if you no what im saying?

    That's what I thought at first. Sometimes springs may clunk when slow turning as they settle in position, but that's it. Anything else indicates a fault. that and the CV joint, I suspect you hit a nasty pothole.

    Have you checked thoroughly for a broken spring. It's not always obvious to the eye, but more when you drive it: it clunks at slow turning speeds, and the wheels bounce when at higher speeds.

    Like you described it, it should not move by hand. Check for signs of a break at the bottom of it. Or you have the wrong part fitted in there and it's too small.

    Springs are definatly not broken spent a long time looking cuz I thought the same im going to check that they are the right springs now. Also do you think it could be anything to do with top mounts hoping I can just order top mount kit for a quick fix thats if the springs are right ones

    So springs look ok to me apex lowering springs but noticed there is still standard shocks could this be problem?

    Standard shocks lowered isn't the best option. What I have at the minute, the ride is shocking and I'm sure it's knackered a dampner as it's not designed to work with less travel. I've got some upgraded ones but haven't fitted them yet.

    Hmmmm starting to think just get brand new coilovers and fit them what you think?

    If you've snapped a spring and your running standard shock you may as well get a kit. No point changing the springs and leaving the old inserts in.

    Springs not snapped just not sure why its clunking when I turn was going to do the driveshafts and replace top mount see if that solved it just wasnt sure if its worth doing the whole lot

    Top mount usually clunks when you go over bumps under acceleration. (less load on the struts)

    Surely though you shouldn`t be able to move a spring around by hand?

    Well im going to do both driveshafts and ive ordered kyb top mounting kit so when old driveshafts are of will replace both sides then can also get a proper look at the springs:-)
