cutting out and non start

    02 reg vtr bit of history first

    old fuel pump died about 2months back otherwise prior to that it started every time no issues randomly cut out at a petrol station one morning after I started it up and went to drive off. New fuel pump got fitted along with fuel filter and general servicing of engine everything was fine until monday when it started up no issue after parking up but stalled as I went to reverse.

    Pressed the fuel cut a few times tried starting nothing, hit the fuel pump a few times nothing checking plug connection seemed ok. Few more hits and it fired into life did another 60 miles and as I got back from work yesterday thought better check it out so ignition off and started again idled fine then died same as monday. Eventually started again when I checked relay under ecu and tried another started car ok, also tested the old one and that worked as well.

    The new fuel pump is a known working one from a a reliable member on here and has been fine for last 6 weeks or so isn't just a scrap yard special one. Been told that the key chip and imob over time have issues "connecting" so can randomly cut the engine out or not start, imob light isn't on though.

    Either way removed the imob box just now as a precaution car started and idled for ten min without it no issues, just a bit confusing as to what the issue could be really, apologies for the essay thought it be best to explain things than do a random 1 line problem thread

    when it restarts, does it struggle to restart and wreak of fuel?

    nope doesn't smell of fuel and generally when it does start up it doesn't it start away like normal only rarely does it take 2 cranks
