Noise

   The previous owner fitted an air filter to the engine, when I start the car there's always quite a loud noise. I've been told this is because of the air filter is this right? Is it usual for them to make abit of noise when the cars first started?

   What kind of noise is it other than loud?

   It's just like air being sucked in quickly

   If it's a performance filter then air flow would generally be increased hence the louder noise

   You should notice it more when pushing past 4k rpm when it really starts to suck air in.. More noticeable on the aftermarket induction kits. Run the car with the bonnet open and get someone to give it a few revs whilst you monitor noise.
