    Hey guys,

right i have searched and found ive got a split PAS pipe from being lowerd.

Sadly i cant afford to have it repaired til payday, a fortnight away, but i HAVE to use the car.

Is their anything i can do in the meen time to stop the pump fucking up due to lack of fluid etc?

can a fuse be taken out to stop it working or anything?

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks,

    Karl.

Oh the fluid has drained itself lol!

Where is the the plug located?

    Noob alert :-\

in the engine bay, pull the big grey relay if you cant find anything else, and unbolt the PAS ram.

Is it on the pump or...?
  7. #7
Also, am i right in thinking the steering is going to be really heavy or will it just be like a car with no PAS?

At the moment turning the wheel when parking is like turning it with the ignition off!

It'll be heavy but not that bad, that's why you drain the fluid so your not pushing it round the system without a pump.

My first car never had PAS, don't know your born lol

There's a lead coming from the pump which leads to a plug. Lift the red tag using a screw driver and sorted.

It's already drained if there's a split in the pipe

Just pull the orange relay from inside the engine bay fuse box.

i said the same above haha

yeah, going to unplug it tomorow in the daylight.

Just got to decide if im going to fix it myself or not.. i havnt got a clue where the pipe even goes to etc!
  12. #12
If the split is right at the pump, just cut it and re-join it.
  13. #13
its up on the drivers side beside the inlet.

atleast thats where all the fluid is! rubbing on the steering arm probs.

i have the pipe if needed, paid £25 from Citroen, had to get it on special order and then released just the union had come lose so didn't use the pipe

can have it posted for £20??

Thanks for the offer mate but a friend of mine is breaking a saxo and has a pipe.

IF i need it that is, i couldnt see anything split so need to have a proper look, im just presuming thats what it is.

Just been out and disconnected the PAS pump so atleast i know the pump wont break.

Had another look around and found this..

now ive had a good feel about and even though the plastic braid has worn through i cant see or feel a hole/crack.. or would it be like a hairline crack?

Going to make a how to fix it thread soon! argh.
  17. #17
Yeah that hasnt been bent up by the looks of it.

Make sure before you put the new one on. bend it abit.

To change it follow the pipe theres a nut on the rack. follow it back (haha).
  18. #18
haha should be fun, tried to bend that one and its stiff as hell.

Knowing my luck ill kink the pipe!
  19. #19
similar problem on mine mate i cant see a hole or anything but im gonna get a pipe from the scrappers tomorrow and try that ive also disconnected the pump but wont that make the rack dry. would rather fuck the pump then rack tbh
  20. #20
loosen it and re-angle the pipe when you fit it. don't bend it

hint: a short 17mm spanner is really handy!
  21. #21
As above 17mm stubby is what you want.
  22. #22
well ive got plenty spanners and tools etc.

just got to take the inlet mani etc off.

whats this about drying out the rack?

You don't need to remove the inlet manifold if you have a stubby spanner, but it will be much easier if you do.

replace the pipes put fluid in and get going!

forget all the other info floating about dried seals and shit won't happen. I drove with no fluid in my rack for 11 months, and the seals are still intact when I refitted PAS.
  24. #24
ive only got normal size spanners haha

i was going to remove the inlet mani just so i could see where the pipe goes tbh, dont have a clue! i can only see the end pictured on page one.
  25. #25
Get a cheap spanner and grind it in half that's what I did before I found a stubby in my dads toolbox.
  26. #26
    good plan batman!

    Hey guys.

Well yesterday was a nice enough day to crach on and get this fixed! What an absolute nightmare of a job it is!

The old pipe came off without any hasle at all, geting the new pipe on was a ballache!

Got the end that goes into the pump in no problem, the end that goes into the rack though.. Arghh!

I couldnt get it to line up and due to lack of room i ended up striping the first 2 threads on the rack!! Lucky i realised before it was to late so cut the end off the old pipe and wound that in, which give it some new threads and after another hour i had it in!

So in total it took me 3hours to do

I bent the pipe out the way using a method recomended by a couple of friends.

Put a socket between the track rod and the pipe and slowly lowerd the car, here are some pics of the clearence.

Thanks for all your help guys

I now have another problem though so hopefuly i can get some help with that to haha.
