Alternator for 1.1 petrol Desire 02 plate

   Hi,
   
   My partner needs a new alternator for a 1.1 Petrol Desire on a 02 plate. We have been told that there is several types of alternators for this model. Any ideas on which one she will need?
   
   Where would be the cheapest place to purchase as they seem expensive?

   The garage telling you the alternator isn't working should be able to tell you which replacement you need.
   
   Have you measured between the positive and negative while idling to make sure it's not just a dud battery?

   You can get them reconned. There should be someone local who does it. My mate just had his done on his golf new pulleys etc etc it'll last the life of the car.

   Hi,
   
   We haven't took it to a garage yet, it was friends that said there were different alternators as we were just going to buy one from Ebay. I thought you could just match the alterator with the model and year of the Saxo?
   
   We have just paid £300 to fix/replace the cars valves so we were trying to get this job done at a lower price.
   
   The battery is brand new and has been checked.

   Mickswan, Can any alterntor be reconned? We have been told that this may cost around £70 but we weren't sure if it would work or not?
