vtr not starting again..

Ok thought this problem had cleared itself up but it's back again after a couple of weeks, when I try to start the car it turns over but won't fire up it sometimes splutters a bit but that's it, no lights on the dash no immobiliser light or any of that, smells slightly of petrol but I think that's just from turning over and not firing, any ideas?

    Thanks

Anyone? Still can't get it going, sounds like it's making some kind of sucking noise when I try to start it.

Flywheel sensor on the gearbox change that and should be fine

    Crank sensor ok?

Have tried another crank sensor doesn't make a difference, the weird thing is it will randomly start up and run and drive fine then next time you go to start it up it won't have any of it!

Check fuel and spark when it next doesn't work. If it's not a fault with one if those, it can only really be timing or compression. If it runs at all (ie, sometimes) then that rules out compression. So likely timing. As above, next thought would be crank sensor or ecu fault.

Pals saxo had same problem diagnostics said coil pack and we changed it then sold the car supposedly it was the crack sensor

Other thing to try is the old disconnect the battery for 1/2 an hr(ecu)

Been looking at this again today and ive noticed my fuel pump is not priming when turning on the ignition, is there some way to test the fuel pump without replacing?

Found out today I'm getting no fuel to the injector rail so I'm thinking fuel pump or relay?
  11. #11
either or. Relay is easiest to swap

I checked the pump and wiring to it, I'm getting battery voltage on the wiring plug to the pump on turning on the ignition (when u hear the pump prime) and around 4 volts the rest of the time when the ignitions on, I took the pump off and tested it direct to the battery and it worked, then I put it back in the car and it primed and the car started up and ran, left it a few hours tried it again and it wouldn't prime or start again.. Really don't know what's going on, could it still be a bad pump?

Cheapest thing is to replace the relay & give the fuel pump a tap(temporary measure)

Yeah think I'm going to have to try that, thing is I had a spare pump that I sold not long ago typical!

Just thought I would update this, problem now fixed with a replacement pump thanks to stevo for the tip on tapping the pump this helped me diagnose it was definitely the pump at fault! Cheers
