need help with bad running engine

   hi all i have a 2001 vtr which has developed bad running engine the last few weeks engine is just running really lumpy and stutters bad when pulling away cold bit of research seems to point to the coil pack do the symptoms point to that in your opinions also i noticed the other day that the coil pack was actually loose on the right hand side i tightened the bolt on the right side and noticed a tapping noise which got worse then better as i was moving the coil pack around a bit trying to tighten it up tapping is still there a little bit is this normal
   
   stutters when cold
   down on power
   lumpy running engine
   
   any help and advice very much appreciated

   It could very well be the coil pack,& i`m guessing here that your saxo has a block type coil pack bolted to the end of the rocker cover?If it has then try starting it at night & have a friend look (without touching the leads)& see if one of the leads is sparking ie a break in the insulation which may account for the tapping noise.

   not sure what you mean mate the coil pack is just behind the rocker cover theres no leads to see tho i mean there is a lead that runs over the top of the coil pack with a plug in the middle of it pretty sure u dont mean that one tho or am i just being a gimp lol

   Aah right so you`ve got the later style coil pack,scrap what I said & see if you can source(borrow)another coil pack & try that.

   is this problem doing any damage to anything till i get the coil pack replaced im trying to use the car as little as poss

   Yes it is if the car is misfiring then it'll wipe out your cat. Damage your valves ect.
   You should have a engine light on your dash.
   If you need a coil pack. I've got a good one for a later mk2 saxo you could have for £20 posted
