white smoke on start up/when being revved?

Ok, bit of a weird one this. My saxo (1.4 sx mk 1) used to blow a cloud of blue smoke on start up and hazed a little blue smoke when being driven hard. It didn't haze when being driven gently or once it was warmed up. This pointed me in the direction of the stem seals dying. I took the head off and stripped it down. Sure enough, very worn stem seals, so I changed those, along with the headgasket, cam belt, tensioner and waterpump. I put it all back together and this is where the problems started.

On startup (hot or cold but more so when cold) it blows a cloud of white smoke which clears up after a couple of seconds. Once this has cleared it doesn't appear to smoke. However, it also blows white/gray when revved, whether it's hot or cold. It doesn't smoke when being driven at steady revs, only when on throttle transients. It doesn't appear to be consuming oil and there is no visible water coming out of the exhaust. The smoke smells a bit "fuelly" like it's running rich.

So guys, what is going on? I believe that the lambda sensor may be on it's way out as the fuel consumption was getting worse before I took it off the road to do the seals. Could a dead lambda produce these sort of symptoms?

    firtly, stop thrashing it cold.
Secondly, unless its chewing its way through fuel, stop worrying about it. I personally would jus drive it. Furio, or in this case westcoast 1.4 lumps fetch about £30, if it pops buy another.

Fair enough, I try not to thrash it from cold. When I say revved I mean 2, maybe 2.5k to pull away from traffic lights/junctions etc. Chucking another lump in would probably solve it, but I want to find out what's causing the issue as it's bugging me.

blowing hg and stem seals can kill off a lambda, try changing that and the coolant temp sender.
