Hi guys im just waiting for new thermostat housing to come, ive also bought a new thermostat, i bought a mk 2 vtr this week and only yday I took it for a good spin, and noticed after a few miles it gets hot half of the temp gauge then the fan comes on then it works it way to red, theres cold air coming out of the fan all the time when on thats why I thought it was a thermostat, but since I went to change the thermo earlier I noticed theres no thermo in the car :/, I damaged the thermo housing so waiting for the new one to come, also the car has a new radiator, I really hope its the thermostat or possibly a air lock, what you all recon?

Sounds like an air lock to me. Bleed it properly and hope theres been damage caused

Heaters will work regardless of thermostat open/closed/missing. If heaters are blowing cold air on hot setting, most likely is large air lock. Check pipes going to bulkhead are hot - if not, it's time to bleed it properly.

Nice one guys much appreciated the chap I bought it off fitted the new rad. Makes sence if he just fitted it as it was like. Is the any pictures on here of the bleed points on a mk2 vtr 1600cc 8v ?

Ive tried bleeding it the best I can going off the bleed procedure on here via header tank that pipe is always cold going to the heater matrix even when the engine and rad pipe is boiling, how else can I get the air out of the system? cud u put a hose wid a garden gun mutli attachment on it an put abit of pressure through the heater matrix?

What I do is blow down the header tank making a seal with my mouth. Puts the water under slight pressure so it can move an airlock but you shouldn't need that if you have the header tank method in use.
