can you save a battery?

if a battery left in a car for over half a year has a voltage drop to 7.8V, providing that the alternator charges it for a sufficient period of time, is the battery still good to go? and is there any way to thoroughly check it's ok, coz we went for a little drive after jump starting, he stalled it and we had to push... not doing that again!

If it's an enclosed battery which it probably will be then no. Some you can top the acid up.

Check all the cell things and top them up with deionised water.....lol at filling it up with acid!!

Erm trickle charge overnight then try it.

Charge it up and drop test it.
It may still start a car but if a cell is fooled. I.e won't keep charge long enough it'll go flat on you again.

Charge it up and see,tbh if its still showing above 7v then it may be fine.
