Important! : Overheating 1.1 saxo, need advice

  1. #1
    Hey guys,

Ive recently bought a cheap 1.1 saxo as a runabout which will eventually be going to the GF as a first car,

However after running it for just over a week its overheating, temp light comes on and fan kicks in!

Ive bled the system and topped it back up(it was low) so heaters went from cold to hot again,

however I have noticed the TOP hose is hot after driving and the bottom hose(from rad) is very cold, after doing some research im getting conflicting results,

I suspect the rad is blocked? as the hot water is coming from engine/thermo to top of rad then its really cold coming out of bottom,

the temp light is stuck on aswell, so it comes on instantly on a cold engine,

not sure an ECU reader will work as its an X reg, any ways to reset light manually to see if it comes back on?

NEED help ASAP as I have a 25mile drive home from work and need the car running 100%

Flush the cooling system through with a hose fit a new thermostat then bleed the system, using the guide on here.

should the top hose be hot and bottom really cold after a long drive?

I suspect its either a blocked rad or normal, but the light wont bugger off so I can check if it comes back on! lol

Hi bot13 ive put loads of posts to try and solve this with my vtr as ive got the same problem, thats all ive been told is bleed the system, ive put 5 ltrs of coolant in now and if I bleed the system all the time itl cost a fortune

ive took the thermostat out and gutted it as it was broke so now its always open,

hopefully it wont blow up now, im going to get a new sensor and thermostat and fit them at weekend, and see if it resolves the issues,

the hot pipe was caused by a closed thermostat afterall, although doesnt make sense as the heat was After the thermostat

Did you test the stat? Pulling the rad out and flushing it should only take 15 mins

yea put it in boiling water and it never opened,

so took it apart now effectively always open until i replace it,

can a sensor get fried from overheating slightly?
