Sqeaking/Scratching/Crunching/Grinding Steering Wheel

  1. #1
Your help is greatly appreciated with this one.

Have read the steering wheel removal guide that Mark51 posted (simply awesome) - here if anyone else needs it http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho....php?p=2466438

what I need to know is, if anyone has had the same crunching, squeaking grinding sound coming from their steering wheel. sounds like a piece of grit stuck between two bits of metal when turning the wheel... i.e. not good.

I haven't yet taken the steering wheel off as I thought i'd ask if there's anything particular I should look out for like bearings etc.

Think I replied in a previous post mate.

Is the noise coming from inside the car or outside? I'm thinking it's quite possible that the steering column is making the noise if it's inside

    Definitely inside.

Should be easy enough to find where it's coming from inside the car then if you remove the covers which takes about 5 minutes with a Torx screwdriver

Removed the steering wheel and sprayed a load of wd40 down it. Seemed to do the trick. Word of advice. Will need a sodding great big torx screw which i bought for around £6

I removed mine yesterday to adjust the central position of my wheel and I could of sworn I used a t45.......I think I'm losing my marbles
