2001 Y Reg Desire 1.1 Fuel gauge problems

  1. #1
so i bought a cheap saxo and i bought it knowing the fuel gauge not working. it would sometimes read but hardly ever, it would go up and down a few times them go right to the bottem and sit there for like 30 mins then read a false reading, then a true reading then go all over the place. so i went to a garage and they said it would be the sender unit under the rear seats. so i went scrap yard and got another one and then replaced it. and i still have the same problem. my temp gauge sometimes works, when it does its either half way or 1/4 way.. would it be the Instrument cluster? or a wiring problem. if it is the cluster how do you remove it and where can i get a decent 2nd hand cluster?
    Thanks

Clusters easy to remove, pop the wheel off a few screws and happy days. I'd just get another set if clocks from a scrappy. Only problem is you'll be on the mileage of your new clocks but if it's cheap are you bothered?
