Reverse gear makes grainy noise

  1. #1
Hey guys, beeds some help or a little understanding as to whats going on.

Ive had my saxo since november 2012, and has been a great car so far woth only 37k on the clock.

Thing is there has always been this grainy/rattly sound if i go straight into reverse gear, this doesnt happen all the time, just occasionally. When i hear it i just pop it into first then back into reverse and that seems to solve it. But i want to make sure nothing bad happening in my gbox, so if anyone could let me know what it is and/or if they have experienced this.

And just to add, its not like a horrible grinding noise, its literally as if theres some hard rice in the gbox haha.

    Thanks, Pumpkin driver dan!

Change the gearbox oil, chances are it's never been done and it should help.

Do you mean crunching into reverse? all the MA and r65 boxes, which are very similar, that I have owned do it

Does it happen when you are about to reverse while the car has either been sitting still for a few hours or/and when you are about to reverse after normal driving? If yes then this is also happening to me at times but not always, I've figured out that it has something to do with it not getting into gear correctly for some reason and should have something to do with the gear oil (As said over). I've not had time to get that done myself yet, but would love to hear if it works for you so I can know for sure that this is the reason

It can also be the gear links that get twisted but should be the oil
