engine management light

Basicly I was driving aling today and my engine management light started flashing and then stayed on, it done this when I first got the car and they said if it happens again just replace the sensor but recently ive had alot of earthing problems with my rear lights and now sometimes my car loses piwer when I change gear but very very rarely and then is fine and everything sounds as it should, but I dont know what the engine light would of come on for? Im going to take it to the garage tomorrow anyway but was just trying to get an idea of if its serious?

not worth guessing until you get a code reader on it tbh mate.
Get a fault code and we can go from there

Ive had it put on a machine and its coming up as a misfire so they saod 99% sure it's the coil pack and then they said the spark plugs need changing if you do that aswell and have quoted me £200, is that good??

    lol.

Start with the spark plugs, that's basic maintenance. 20 quid, not 200 and a piece of piss to do. Then reset the car by unplugging the battery for a few minutes, start again.

Then worst case scenario and the coil pack needs replacing: they can be bought for 15 pounds. Whoever told you 200 is a cunt and wants to take you for a ride.

Right ok cheers they charged me 40 quid to put it on the machine aswell, and an hours labour at 40 quid and then the rest for the spark and coil pack

ffffeeeeek that. You could have bought a diag machine for 40 quid. I'd suggest you to take your wallet elsewhere, I mean you could have fixed the whole lot for 40 quid.

I once bought a USB cable to plug into my car, cost me a fiver delivered. Been saving ever since, not to mention you can reset faults without having to unplug the battery etc.

Ok I'll have a look for one of them what diag machine did you get??

I only had to buy a simple OBD 2 to usb cable that plugs into my laptop and then install the software. Was lucky to snatch one for dirt cheap on amazon.

with pug citroen, it's a bit dearer but you can get a 30 pin to OBD II cable then buy a simple OBD II fault scanner for 10 or 20 quid. Otherwise the other diag system is called lexia 3.

Ok mate I will be getting one of these, didn't realise they were so cheap tbh mate. Cheers

haha, didn't know either until I looked into it after coughing up 30 quid for a diagnostic. Those mechanics make a fucking mint out of it. Plug it in for ten seconds then charge you 40 for it, slight ripoff there...

Very useful tool to have tbh.

Yeah might wasn't even that long, seen they plugged it in flashed up cylinder misfire, unplugged it and gave me the car back, literally took 2 seconds. Ultimate piss take the machines can't be that exspensive and fantastic. Citroen wanted £56 tho

The genuine snap-on machines cost several thousands & have to be updated every month or so.
