Help Please: how do you unplug the power steering plug?

97 1.1 Saxo. I’ve managed to disconnect the rest of the pump ready for removal apart from the wiring plug. There seems to be a rubber plug on the loom that plugs into a plastic socket with a red retaining device on the pump wiring. How do you release/unplug this please? Thanks.

I’ve been looking at images. Looks like the part with the red plastic bit is part of the loom & the plastic pump plug pulls out of this right? Does the red bit pull up? It looks like it needs releasing at the bottom.

stick a flat blade screw driver in there and prize it up

Ok. Thanks. Do you have to push in the two plastic claws on the left of the picture first? They look like they might break. Is the slot at the top for a screwdriver blade as a lever?

Ok. Thanks I've seen the screwdriver bit.

Done. Thanks it pops up about 10mm. I plied it with WD & Vaseline first. The plug came off the mounting. I think it might slide back on or cable tie if broken. If replaced I’m to go the second hand route so I may as well have a look inside the old pump motor. It did respond to a tap with a hammer. I’ll try to post some pictures if anyone’s interested. Many thanks again for your help.

I’ve got the pump on the bench connected to 12v & after a few seconds of squawking, as it did when tapped on the car, seems to run ok with a typical, nice, electric motor whirr. Starts every time ok so don’t see the point of taking it apart. Maybe leave & continue checking it for a few days, give it a good run & put it back if ok.

Squawks if left for a while but starts. Dry bearing seems to be the problem. Might have to take it apart.
