Important! : Handbrake problem.

  1. #1
    Hi everybody,

I want to ask how to tight the handbrake up? My is really loose and only brake when its fully up.

drop centre section of exhaust down, remove heatshield (towards front of car, under where handbrake is), tighten the 13mm nuts where you see the 2 cables. then put everything back together

I found just leaving the exhaust on, un-doing the heatshield then sliding it backwards out the way and getting to the bolts, quite a bit more fiddly but does save dropping the exhaust but probably easier to access and after all the fiddling probably takes same time to drop the exhaust out!

Takes 2 mins to drop exhaust

Sounds like one of your handbrake cables could have snapped.

Ideally the handbrake should be fully on after about 3/4 clicks.

Mine was proper fooked, cables were stretched and where the handbrake mounts was a tad rotten so it was cut out and a new plate welded in......all hunky dory now.
