Hi iv a saxo vtr 2001 when i accelerate there is a winding up noise and when i decelerate theirs a different pitch winding down noise when i push the clutch in fully the noise goes but still can hear a little noise.

This happens in all gears changed the gear box oil and found small metal fragments on the drain plug

sounds like a box on its way out I'm afraid.

The small metal fragments on the drain plug is normal, simply from when your grind the gears, the plug is a magnet it stops them flowing round the oil. As above it sounds like your gearbox is on it's way out, also sounds like your clutch is going, the noise you speak off sounds like the thrust bearing which is a good indicator of a clutch on it's way out.

The good news is, if you are getting a new gearbox the clutch will only cost you pennies to change

depends how big the chunks are on the drain plug, big ones are a sure sign something is badly wrong.
It doesnt sound like the clutch is slipping however.
Either way you need to get this box off to investigate, so just replace the lot imo!

It sounds like the input shaft bearing of the gearbox mate. Iirc these are quite common on 106's and saxos. A box should be cheap enough to pick up from your local scrappy!!

See Mr White_vts_boy about why you should not get a box from the scrappy.
