Replacing Door

  1. #1
    Hi

I am going to be replacing the passenger side door on my VTS next week (a guy hit me perfectly at about 10mph, didn't touch any other panels).

What's the method? And do I need to swap the lock over? (Does remote lock work without?)

    Cheers

Yes locks will need swapping over. Bit that's easy.
    Open the door.
Undo the wire plug just twist free. (Door part may turn aswell so need to hold that ).
And there is two door pins. One for top hinge and one for bottom. Both are T40 torx iirc. You want a decent quality bit so they don't round off. Pull old door off clean up the pins. Bit of copper grease on them. Get someone to hold the new foo in place while you put the pins in.
    And reassemble.
    Swap locks over.
10 Minuit job it it all undoes.

Cheers for your reply. I only have smaller Torx bits so I'm going to have to eBay for a T40 - should I get a bit for an electric screwdriver or get a manual one, or a ratchet bit? (Just wondering what clearance I have when un screwing, as the car isn't on my drive at the minute).

    I am looking at these:

    Thanks.

In the end I ordered both bits and manual screwdriver, just in case.

Door card off to access the 2 nuts inside the door, then unbolt the strap from car body.

Just undo the two torx bolts on the car.
Best to have a set of the twist stud extractor sockets they normally get stuck halfway out and then round off.

It depends on what tool you use & if you damage/round off the screw head mate.
