How Do I get the Exhaust Back Box off?

  1. #1
I’ve puttied up the daughter’s Saxo backbox for mot but it really needs replacing. Mot expired so I need to do it off road. Any tips on how to get the old one off as they always seem to weld themselves together at the male female joint? Looks well rusted on. I think the clamp will come off ok.

Thanks but won't that leave the male bit of the old pipe inside the middle pipe?

if it's rusted that bad you might be best off getting a new centre section too

Can't tell until I take the clamp off. Just wondered if there are any tricks of the trade I haven't thought of. Hot air gun & freezer spray maybe worth a try.

Cat & mid section all one piece. wouldn't won't to bash it about too much. Maybe a good idea to take the mid & tail section off & deal with it in the garage.

i just did mine yesterday and clamp bolts were seized tight...dont take it to a garage youll get ripper, grind inbetween the clamp at the two bolts making sure you dont damage the centre pipe and jobs a good'n just make sure that you keep the backbox on hangers, you dont want it dropping on you!
