wobbly wheel!! help urgently! UPDATE page 2

    Hey guys

I will start by saying their was no signs or warnings of this (vibration, wheel wobble etc)

So, i had some new tyres put on the car on Thursday. When the fitter put the drivers side front back on he called me over. The wheel is wobbling allover!

kind of like when your rear axle goes, its rocking from the top-bottom and left-right

at first we double checked the bolts were all tight, no problems

When wobbling it though, the brake disc is also moving!!

    any ideas guys?

The most worrying bit is, if i hadnt of had new tyres i wouldnt of known!

    Thanks

    Karl.

could be wheel bearing or wishbone inner bushes, or even strut top mount if the whole lot is moving... id check those!

See i checked the strut top bolts under the bonnet and they all tight :/

at the time the tyre fitter checked the wisbone bolts and all was tight and when wobbling the wheel the strut and wisbone were not moving

Still looks very alarming though. I thought maybe the wheel bearing but ive had them go before and as said above, no noise or vibration etc :/

Sounds like the wheel bearing to me if the discs moving aswell. Does it wobble up and down and side to side?

hahaha aye itll be the bearing if everythings tight. Check to see if the hubnuts tight first tho

Hasn't had a driveshaft swap has it? Using the wrong type of shaft with either the tapered or non tapered bearing can cause this

Can 100% say the hub nut is tight, recently done the driveshaft and it was put back on with a 450nm snap on gun haha

fair enough lol. Gandi could be right then

The shaft was exactly the same as what came out...

iirc it was off the same year vts.

Mine did this when I had put the wrong strut on with a flat bearing. Changed to a tapered one as my car is a cross over so it's got mk2 struts and it was fine there after

You sure? Check closely cause some cars came with any old bits on. Mines mk2 struts even though it's a late mk1. Some cars they just seem to use whatever's to hand

Mine is an 02 plate VTS, dont have the old shaft anymore to compare

Any other way to check it?

Take the wheel off & make sure the brake disc is screwed on tight 1st.

The wheel bolts would hold the disc on tight

Ran plenty saxos without the disc screws.

@Gandi, if the shaft is the wrong type, can you buy just the end instead of the whole shaft?
  17. #17
You need a whole new shaft mate.

    Being a 02 S it will/should be tapered

Thanks for that Cam, anyway i can check by just taking the wheel off?

The shaft i put in looks like the tappered one, and it has the big fat nut rather than the slim one...

Going to jack the car up and check both sides, see if the nuts are the same to possibly eliminate the wrong shaft idea and also check they are tight and go from there.

UPDATE- well, it would appear that it has the wrong shaft in

Ive put a tapered shaft in (which it should have) but it doesnt suit the strut!

as luck would have it though a mate of mine has a spare strut that i can have so hopefully its the right type and will get it swapped over.

    Thanks for the help guys
