Important! : Rear axles gone :'( help!

  1. #1
Just been out in my car today, felt fine, but my mate was following me and noticed my passenger side, rear wheel was wobbling a lot. Giving it a quick wobble etc, its the trailing arm thats loose which I'm guessing means knackered rear axle?
Can anyone point me in the right direction of someone who refurbs them in Yorkshire, or a cheap place to buy them? Would you recommend buying second hand etc?
    Cheers

I got a refurbed one off eBay last year, was about £90. The refurb was spot on.

Don't buy the first one you see tho, check that the seller knows his stuff.

Ok Cheers, I do need it repairing asap though really! What about these axle repair kits you can get for £40-50 with new bearings etc, are they any good?

i bought a rear axle off someone on here and paid good money for it, and had a refurb done not long ago apparently and the Offside rear has play in it
make sure you get proof. Lesson learnt.

Sorry, don't know anything about the repair kits.

The rear axle is one of the most common things to go on a Saxo, so long-term, you'd probably be better off getting a refurb. They're really expensive brand new, but save yourself loads and get a good quality refurbed one.

Someone else might be able to help you about the repair kits.

They seem quite expensive! I'm trying my best to do what I can on a budget but getting a used one is false economy really, I don't know what to do

I noticed there is someone on here, if you go to Saxo Forums at the top of the page and there is a thing with dicounted with IM Axles or something like that, hope this helps and hope you get it sorted soon.

I thought the price with IM axels was quite good.
Around £250 for the bare axel to swap your stuff over. And they will give you money for yours.
If your buying a refurb kit. You've got to factor in doing both sides and normally the stub pin is goosed and that can only be pressed in.

    This.

It's the main reason I was gonna get a new beam- plus the fact you get a warranty.

Cheers people! Do you know how much I'd get for mine??

if it was mine, i'd take the radius arm off, see if the stub pin is in good condition, if so i'd buy the bearing repair kit. a lot of people say they're a bastard to do but to be fair they're not that bad, that'd save you quite a bit of money on a new axle, but if the stub pin isn't smooth, then a new rear beam it is, as the pins have to be pressed in

Course I can (: if it's only got surface rust then it can be cleaned up with a bit of wet and dry, I remember doing it on a previous saxo with a stub pin that had 13 years of surface debris on it, it cleaned up nice and never had play in the bearings when it went back together, however if there is damage to the pin for example I recently took my radius arm off on my new saxo as it had play in the bearings after a £400 'refurb' and the stub pin had damage ie the bearings had implanted themselves into the pin and I'm back to square one, hello new axle, but if it's round and clean it shouldn't have play in it when it all goes back together (:

any rust is a nono, any pitting is bad, you want a smooth untarnished surface, which is massively unlikely if there is play.
