Brakes

  1. #1
    Hi all,
Ive noticed that my brakes are making a really high pitched noise when I press the pedal its getting to the point where it sounds like its grinding I checked the pads and they seem to have a few more miles left in them, should I change them to be on the safe side, also I was thinking of changing the rear brakes from drums to disc's what would I need to do this?
    Many thanks

I didnt check the back ones, I think that could be where the high pitch scream is coming from? not too sure.

Cheers im gonna have to do a bit more research before I commit myself to taking my car off the road for a few weeks and spending money to do it, if the wheels look lost in the arches couldnt I use spacers to bring the wheels out a little more or wouldnt it work like that? if it makes sense to anyone.

You could fit spacers,or slightly wider alloys as I think the std rims are 6' wider but I might be wrong.

As far as I'm aware,if you fit an axle from a vts/vtr its a straight swap.......

There was a good guide on here but all the pics have gone so it might be an erse to follow.

Edit:just had a look and I can't find it,I'm sure theres a decent thread somewhere about fitting one.

Cheers for the help lads I suppose I should start having a look for the bits, would I need to extend brake lines or anything?

nah mate brake lines go to same place, if you cant get brake lines off cut the pipe and knock a easy out on thats what i did and replace from under passenger footwell back. try cracking them open with a good set of grips spanner just rounds them.

Cheers for the help mate, I was thinking about putting vtr/s calipers all around on once I have sourced a rear axle, would that work?

With your brakes making a noise(fronts)put some copper grease on the back of the pads.

You need new handbrake cables to fit a disk brake rear beam
