Clutch going?

  1. #1
When on tickover it sounds like my clutch is still slightly engaged, a sort of whirring noise, then when I press the clutch pedal in the noise goes and its quiet like normal, then when I come off the clutch again it starts to make the noise again. The clutch pedal is quite stiff to press towards the bottom but it doesn't slip and all the gears engage fine etc so what do you think it is? To me it sounds like release bearings but not sure, looking up online some people have said possibly clutch cable and re-adjust the clutch arm on top of the gearbox?
    Cheers

Mines the same, I'm putting it down to the release bearing. When the engines running, push the clutch arm a little and if the noise goes then it's more than likely. Either way it's a box off job.

Definitely sounds like the clutch release bearing

Ok cheers! Its what I thought, am I able to keep driving it like this, I know it will eventually complete cook the clutch itself but how long will it take? Just thinking will it last till end of January time if I drive it nearly everyday?

Yeah I've seen they have a LUK Clutch kit for £60, LUK if I'm not wrong are part of Valeo, or use Valeo clutch plates? So thats what I think I'll go for Eurocar parts have the same clutch kit for £90 I think it is so carparts4less it is but I think ill try keep it going for a bit longer

Euro car parts have 30% off use chill30 should work on a clutch i changed my clutch with the noise you where describing and was still the same turned out to be the gearbox, input shaft bearing most likely

I had a mk2 civic with a dodgy release bearing and it chattered when pressing the clutch was hilarious people thought it was a dump valve. I drove like that for about a year till I needed te engine for my mk1 and swapped the clutch then

Usually gearbox going makes a noise when in gear, as soon as mines in gear its fine, not whining in any gears or anything

I had that same problem and when it did go I was on my way to college on the one way system in Catford if anyone knows the place, so I called the AA he came out and diagnosed it as the clutch release bearing, when I took it apart all the plastic had melted and the metal was burnt.

Just try moving the arm when it's running and squeaking, give you the answer.
