16v missfire!

  1. #1
right this is really starting to piss me off , basically my car decideds to misfire randomly, could be once in a week or could be about 5 times a day!
when it does it if I boot it through low gears and high revs it clears and pulls as it should, then could be a matter of 5 mins till it does it again or could be a day later!

what ive done is as it was doing it put a brand new known to be working coilpack on it and its the same
also, got a fresh set of plugs in it today and put a new fuel filter too as I thought that could cause it as who knows how long that filter has been on for! , drove like a dream today , a lot smoother and drove so much nicer and fine all day! till about an hour ago it did it again!

its seriously pissing me off now! any ideas people?

oh also say im sat on a motorway at high revs it wont do it, its only if im driving in low revs it'll start it off!

    Could be an injector?

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

But would that sort it's self out once I boot it?!
  5. #5
    Anyone?!
  6. #6
mines doing same, got told could be lambda, so ive unplugged it to rule that out
  7. #7
I unplugged lambda sensors, but still the same
  8. #8
loss of power / judders no matter how much revs you give?

    or

Judder on part throttle/cruise then normal when increase revs?
  9. #9
Loss of power and judder through all revs, but when you rev it up in neutral seems to rev up fine , but web driving it sounds like a scoobarooo
  10. #10
But like I said if I boot it it'll clear it! It could clear it within a second of booting or it can take 5 mins of booting it around in a straight line to clear it
  11. #11
EML flashing? Does sound like the coilpack, but you've changed that - but suppose it wasn't a new one so can't really rule it out

IF the coilpack is a working one then will be worth trying crankshaft sensor - can pick em up for pennies so worth a try
  12. #12
Deffo not coilpack mate and was thinking that but it's the fact that if I boot it and it clears it
Also forgot to mention , that if I leave it till it's cold then it's alright again till it decides to start running like a cunt again !

Faulty lambda sensor, try unplugging it & go for a drive mate.
  14. #14
Have done mate, drive for about a month with it unplugged
  15. #15
Try checking the alternator charging rate.
  16. #16
It's spot on mate , new alternator about a month ago and checked it with a voltmeter afterwards, it's perfect
  17. #17
    check everything.

failing that throw it in a garage and let the fuckers rot, hi ali.
  18. #18
its been doing my head in for ages! just cant get to the bottom of it, just don't fancy spending money on random bits hoping it'll cure it

    but hey der matt! <3

    Spark plugs?

Take the throttle body off and give all the sensors a real good clean they will be covered in crap, clean up dry out and fit and reseal everything. If it doesn't work you've not lost anything and gained a little.
  20. #20
    done all that already mate
  21. #21
Could be a dodgy connection the loom somewhere.
  22. #22
I'm guessing it's the injectors mate , I piston ring sticking sometimes could cause it have you done compression test ?
  23. #23
but im pretty sure a break in the loom wouldn't cure its self when I boot it
and yep compression tested , between 165 and 170 across all 4 mate
  24. #24
It must be a sensor then have you got any spare 1`s lying about?Or a spare fuel pump to eliminate that.
  25. #25
not really no mate, just some sensors off my old 8v engine that's it
im thiniing poss fuel pump, but also trying to thing what sensors too!
  26. #26
Map sensor, throttle position sensor might be 2 culprits.

The injector itself may be partially blocked?
Map sensor could cause this too.

One way to check the spray pattern (try when its cold if this is when its at its worst)

Unbolt the injector rail pull the injectors out the manifold/head but make sure the injectors are still in the rail. put some cardboard underneath the injectors and get someone to crank the engine over.
You will see if one is faulty as it will have a shitty pattern or wont flow as much fuel as the others.

    Worth a try

and I shall also give this a go if all else fails!
