New brakes and pads advice please

  1. #1
Have got to get new discs and pads all round but would like some advice on what to get and where.

Its for a standard vtr which as you well know has awful braking. Have already bled within last 5000 miles but will do again if needs be. Used dot 5 stuff as per recommendation.

Have seen brembo's on kam racing and some people talking about mintex. Also see braided hoses - any benefit on standard system? Any help is appreciated.

Best thing you can do is speak to KAM Racing on the phone or drop them an email and they'll suggest something that meets your requirements and budget.

Ok, will do that tomorrow then. They do only do the brembo's though so am pretty sure i know what they'll recommend. Also, do they do saxp discount?

Might be worth while upgrading to 266mm discs, calipers and pads if you are going to replace pretty much everything.

Will improve the braking but not be over the top.

I did wonder about this but wanted to see if i could get similar performance from the standard set up. Don't know whether it's just age of car but even with brand new tyres (dunlop sp fast response -ace tyres in wet) it borders on dangerous.

Yeah std brakes should be decent enough with good pads, braided lines and decent recently changed fluid.

I'm using my std brakes with Brembo Max discs and Ferodo pads and I like it. Next change will be with the same combination at a 266mm.

Are the pads standard or are they race/fast road spec?

What I have learned with my vtr, the grooved and drilled discs and pads combos from eBay are crap, cheap motor factors discs are also crap, ebc green stuff and ultimate pads are terrible on any type of disc, what I should of done was put the brembo discs and pads on like Kam racing recommend on their site. But I'm now fitting 406 brembos with brembo pads and best premium discs motor factors can give me,lol rear will be standard brembo pads and discs tho. But also need a good tyre, is just as important

So you wreckon brembo discs and pads all round on standard size setup will be fine. Perhaps with addition of braided lines?

You can pick up BREMBO disk and pads from any local factors or eurocarparts just ask for them by name.

As for braided lines yes along with the new fluid you will need to use to fit them will make an improvement but will that improvement be better than the same fluid with new standard rubber lines?
    That's debatable

Debatable on saxp essentially means - sup to you
Will put the brembos on then and see how i get on. Fluid doesn't need changing for a while as still clear. Cheers guys. Will let you know how i get on.

Well usually braided lines offer improvement as there is less flex,on motorbikes for instance the difference is noticeable but I can't comment on cars.

Braided lines don't offer any real world difference other than bling and impact protection if the car is rallied or similar. New non braided are fine IMO

Copper lines and braided where they have to be allowed to flex. If you're thinking of replacing all lines with braided don't bother. Downgrade from copper lines and about 1000x more expensive lol

I'm using the Ferodo DS2500. There are fast road spec I suppose.

How much did you pay for the ds2500's??

decided on M1144's as per Kev from Kam Racing's recommendation. Sticking with Standard Brembos all round and standard pads at bac. will let you know how I get on.

Managed to get the front Disks and Pads on last night in the pissing rain and so far am extremely impressed. Much sharper breaking performance and the mintex's only need a little heat to get them working.
