Water leak in cabin

  1. #1
Just a quick one seem to have a water leak into the sill area in the back of the car. It's inside the panel where the rear door card and speakers would sit then pools in the bottom, can't see to see where it's coming in. Window looks tight and drip free as does the boot for now, thinking it could be where the quarter panels meet the roof under the black plastic weather strip seams on the roof? Any one got any ideas so I can take a quick look without getting too wet this evening

Had a look now it seems to be coming in via the seam under the window in the shell. Saw it drip from there. So inside here

Then look up and it's dripping very slowly, looks like it's been at it years

Shall I take the window out and have a butchers or is it how the quarter panel has been made?

If it's the roof seams how are these sealed? Couldn't see any sealer where the black strips fit in but could be in the gap between?

Take the window out and re seal it. Might even be a dodgy seal. Must say I've never seen that before

That's what's weird about it the seal seems fine to the naked eye but I'm going to take the whole window out as I've got to reseal the missus vectra too this weekend

My sunroof leaked under the sunroof. I undid all the bolts, lifted out the sunroof unit, made a continuos silicone bead all around the roof about half a cm out from the sunroof hole. Waited a minute or 2 and bolted the sunroof back in. It's been dry for a couple of years now and the sunroof still opens and closes perfect. Hopefully that's of some use to you.

In essence my seals looked fine, and were. Don't go sealing your roof up completely as it *might* not be necessary.

sunroof is fine on this did it a while back, no water even leaks into the catch tray below it due to me sealing it up.

Whats odd about this though is there no leaking from the seal inside the car, the metal where the seal sits leading down to the opening is bone dry. Its only inside the cavity where its wet which is odd.

Are you sure the water isn't coming in from underneath the car?

Definitely mate, it drips down you can see it

I have a similar problem water runs out of the rear speaker quarter panel , I will look into purchasing a new seal for the window , it looks fine but I suppose if it is not pressing tight enough against the glass it could find its way in ! , hopefully I can find a new seal that is cheap ! .

I've sealed where the panel is pressed together under the window seal, see how it fairs now

I've recently noticed a leak on mine when I was hoovering out the rear seats noticed the roof lining near the back window was wet. Had a look but can't figure out where its cooming in but that's why my windows always steam up.
When I do get to the bottom of it and find the problem then need to get the roof lining off and get it dried out.

Hello mate , have you checked the rear tailgate seal area ? , the metal part that the rubber seal pushes onto sometimes rots in the corner edges at the top , I had this prob on the old VTR , I just cleaned it all up and found a few tiny holes where the water was finding its way onto the roof lining ! , I just painted it with lots of hammerite and this filled up the tiny holes ( it was a bodge job ) but it worked no more water getting in and the x has my old VTR now and in 2 years still no leaks
