1st and reserve gear selection

Hi i have a 1.1 1999 saxo and im having problems selecting 1st and second gear when car is cold just hard to get into gear when i start the engine,will select all gears when engine turned off also fine when car is driving you can select all gears no problems
just seems when car is stationary with engine running really difficult to select first gear seems worse when engine cold.
also get a crunching noise when trying to select reverse.

reverse doesnt have a syncro so will crunch slightly, all do unless your stationary for a while and wait for the gearbox to slow down, 1st and 2nd problems usually mean that the gearbox has had a hard life and they are wearing, when its warm its better because the gearbox oil is thinner.

1. replace the gearbox oil with the correct stuff (90% of the time people put the wrong stuff in) i think its meant to have 75-80 gear oil which is odd and has to be ordered in most of the time.

2. replace gearlinkages MIKE in the forsale bit has some kamracing or constella solid linkages for sale, they are your best bet, change them and see if that improves it.

3. see if the clutch is dragging slightly, the arm on the top of the gearbox should have slight movement in it where the cable is...

if neither improve it then live with it until the box shits itself and put another one on...
